Senior DoD Leaders to Convene to Address Interoperability and Autonomy for Unmanned Systems

Defense Strategies Institute will bring together Senior DoD leaders March 26 - 27, 2013 in Alexandria, VA for a Town Hall forum that will address several of the major pressing challenges facing the advancement, efficiency, and effectiveness of the use of unmanned systems in mission critical operations for the Military. DSI will open the forum to the public.

Washington, DC, February 05, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The continual uptick in the use of unmanned systems in theater has brought to the forefront the near term technical and operational challenges facing the use of these systems that will most effectively align with Combatant Commanders and the Warfighter’s mission critical needs.

“We have seen an increase in research towards how to better align what is technically feasible and financially viable with what is needed from an operational viewpoint. When we look at issues such as increasing levels of interoperability and autonomy across systems, there is not only the technical hurdles to overcome, but also the doctrine supporting the long term use of these systems. What level of “autonomy” is truly needed? When we talk about manned / unmanned teaming, what’s the proper balance in this? And how do we help provide the Warfighter with the most supportive technologies to achieve mission success? These are just a few of the topics we hope to hash out in our discussions and debates in March,” stated Monica Mckenzie, DSI’s Senior Partner in charge of the Summit.

DSI has opened the forum to the public and is calling upon industry involved in this community to join their speaker faculty in these discussions. "We are bringing together senior leadership within OSD, the Military Services, and Academia to present their distinct and shared viewpoints, but given the dependance on industry to provide the needed technologies moving forward, it's critical to the discussions to have their input. We design the forum as a "Town Hall" to allow for our delegates to truly interact and have pragmatic conversations with our speakers," stated Lisa Madison, Director of Communications for DSI.

A glance of their agenda revels the diversity in speakers coming together, including:

· Mr. Earl Wyatt, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Rapid Fielding (RF), OSD (AT&L)
. BGen Mark Wise, USMC, Commanding General, Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory; Vice Chief, Office of Naval Research
· RDML Mathias W. Winter, USN, PEO, Unmanned Aviation and Strike Weapons (PEO(U&W))
· CAPT Duane Ashton, USN, Unmanned Maritime Systems, PMS 406 Major Acquisition Program Manager
· Mr. Joseph A. Giampapa, Senior Member, Technical Staff, Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute

DSI's Summit will also support the 501c3 nonprofit Wounded Warrior Project through their charitable donations. Anyone interested in learning more about the Summit can visit DSI at :http://unmannedsystems.dsigroup.org
