IW5's Business Manager to Receive Top Labor Award

Kendall Martin, Business Manager/Financial Secretary-Treasurer of Iron Workers Local #5 will receive the 2013 "J.C. Turner Award" from the Metro Washington Council, AFL-CIO.

Washington, DC, February 06, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Metropolitan Washington Council of the AFL-CIO (MWC) announced Friday that the 2013 J.C. Turner Award will be presented to Kendall Martin.

Since July of 2008, Martin has served as the Business Manager/Financial Secretary-Treasurer for Iron Workers Local #5, which represents more than 1,000 Iron Workers in Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

MWC President Jos Williams cited Martin’s “extensive support of Metro Council and Community Service Agency events,” adding, “Kendall can always be counted on to be there with funds, bodies … whatever it takes.”

Nominees for this award have shown outstanding commitment to the labor movement in all areas, including community service, political activity, and support of other locals within the MWC.

An Iron Worker for 18 years, Martin previously acted as Superintendent for both Harmon, Inc. and CBO Glass, industry leaders in glass and glazing services. He received a Governor’s Citation for “Moving Maryland Forward” in December of 2010.

Martin will be presented with the J.C. Turner award at the 36th Annual “Evening with Labor,” to be held Sat., 3/16/13 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel (2500 Calvert Street NW). More than 1,000 guests are expected, including labor activists, business leaders, and politicians.
