DEA Approves iBeta’s Full Scope Certification Process for EPCS

Aurora, CO, February 06, 2013 --(PR.com)-- iBeta Quality Assurance (“iBeta”), a NVLAP (National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program) accredited Biometrics Testing Laboratory, was recently approved by the DEA to certify Electronic Prescriptions of Controlled Substances (EPCS) for both physician and pharmacy supporting applications. Their original scope was expanded from the biometric focus of the two-factor authentication to include full scope of certification for EPCS applications.

The Certification Process developed by iBeta in accordance with the DEA regulations governing EPCS, builds on iBeta’s current procedures and processes that have been audited by both NVLAP and the DEA. Once certified through iBeta, an application may then be used to create, sign, transmit and process controlled substance prescriptions.

The Certification Team at iBeta is very excited to have their certification process approved by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Due to the constant and sometimes rapid changes in technology, the DEA anticipates that this certification process will evolve, and that the DEA will continue to be involved in reviewing and approving changes and updates to this certification.

In their approval letter from the USDOJ DEA, Joseph T. Rannazzisi, Deputy Assistant Administrator, Office of Diversion Control, stated “We appreciate you identifying requirements associated with federal best practices specified the National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST), DEA regulation, and iBeta’s determination of improvements to the processing integrity of EPCS.”
