Nonprofit Breast Cancer Bowling Event Returns to Long Island
Melville, NY, February 17, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The easiest way for those snowed in on Long Island to get through digging themselves out of the snow is to think of better and sunnier days ahead. One of those days will be Sunday March 3, 2013, the date of the Maurer Foundation's Fourth Annual Flamingo Bowl. The fundraiser of the nonprofit organization helps in the fight against breast cancer.
“This is a fun event for the entire family,” explained Maurer Foundation Executive Director Debbie Hecht. “It's also for a great cause that everyone should be concerned about.”
The Maurer Foundation's programs provide education about breast cancer and help dispel myths and fears about the illness. Their Educational Outreach Program teaches what women can do to reduce their risks for developing breast cancer and how to give themselves a proper breast self-exam. The foundation conducts their programs onsite at high schools, colleges, community group meetings, and businesses around Long Island. Currently, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer sometime in their lifetime.
Last year's Flamingo Bowl, raised over $25,000 for the Foundation's breast health programs. The event will be held at the popular and trendy bowling alley 300 Long Island in Melville from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Thursday February 28th is the registration deadline for this year's event, with a $100 minimum donation per bowler. Registrants are strongly encouraged to have their colleagues and companies to sign up as well. Not only is the event for a great cause, it is also an opportunity to embrace one's competitive spirit as participants can compete against friends and rival companies on Long Island.
Sponsors for this year's event so far include: Capital One Bank, Winebow, Gastroenterology Associates, Dr. & Mr. Weiss, Paramount Beauty, Signature Bank, and First National Bank of New York. Sponsorships for the event are still available.
Bowlers can pay their $100 minimum donation in either a single donation or multiple donations, taken as pledges from family and friends. The donation entitles bowlers to two games, shoe rental, food, soda, and a special gift. The foundation encourages bowlers to register as soon as possible to help ensure that the goal of raising $30,000 is reached.
