Nominations Open for 2013 Annual WIB Awards
The Workforce Investment Board of Ventura County (WIB) is seeking nominations for its 2013 Annual WIB Awards. The selected winners will have shown exemplary commitment to advancing workforce development in Ventura County.
Ventura, CA, February 19, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The WIBBIE’s are back! The Workforce Investment Board of Ventura County (WIB) is seeking nominations for its 2013 Annual WIB Awards. The selected winners will have shown exemplary commitment to advancing workforce development in Ventura County. The nomination deadline is May 29. Winners will be announced at the WIB Annual Meeting on June 20 at the Ventura County Office of Education (5100 Adolfo Road, Camarillo, 93012).
"Many businesses, groups and individuals are doing great work within our county by providing job opportunities, employee training and workplace support. Their efforts strengthen Ventura County's ability to compete in today's global economy," says Alex Rivera, WIB chair. "As they are fondly referred to, the WIBBIES are one way to recognize their important contributions."
An individual, employer, organization or partnership may be nominated in one or more categories:
WIB Youth Opportunity Award - for providing internships or employment opportunities that will grow and strengthen Ventura County's future workforce.
WIB Collaborative Action Award – for a partnership that helps to meet employer workforce needs, improves education/workforce training and/or supports business expansion/retention in Ventura County.
WIB Champion for Prosperity Award - for supporting workforce development in Ventura County through job creation, job retention, business expansion or business attraction.
WIB Leadership Award - for a role model whose efforts or accomplishments embody the spirit and purpose of workforce development in Ventura County.
WIB Award recipients for 2012 were Eric Birns, president/COO of BIRNS, Inc. (WIB Youth Opportunity Award), City of Port Hueneme (WIB Youth Opportunity Award), Sharon Dwyer, economic development project manager, Ventura County Community College District (WIB Collaborative Action Award), Travis Mack, president/CEO of Saalex Solutions, Inc. (Champion for Prosperity Award) and Alma Ferrel, owner of ABC Kids Preschool & Childcare (WIB Leadership Award).

The Workforce Investment Board administers federal funds that help to support Job & Career Centers (JCCs) and other adult, youth, and employer programs and services in Ventura County. With additional resources from the County of Ventura Human Services Agency, the JCCs provide employment assistance, career training and education services to job seekers, and employee recruitment, customized training and employer consulting to local businesses.
