The Center for Excellence in Education Sponsors Teacher Training Program
This opportunity brings together teachers with leading and cutting edge scientists and/or engineers over an informal dinner. Teachers will have the opportunity to interact with researchers from industry, academia, and government.
McLean, VA, February 23, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) will host two Bite of Science dinner events, at no cost, for high school teachers at the California Science Center located at 700 State Drive in Los Angeles, California. The events are scheduled for Tuesday, February, 26th and Wednesday, February 27th. Both events will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Science teachers who wish to broaden their perspective of science in their classroom are invited to participate.
The mission of the Teacher Enrichment Program helps to assure a future talented and diverse U.S. workforce in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It focuses on best practices and resources, as well as exposure to the breadth and depth of scientific discovery often not available to rural and urban high school teachers and their students. The Bite of Science professional development opportunities for teachers is estimated to impact at least 10,275 California students in 2013.
The Teacher Enrichment Program will provide content and information for teachers to engage students to pursue careers in science and technology.
"I commend the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) for its dedication to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education," said Congresswoman Susan Davis, 53rd District of California. “As a member of Congress who serves on the House Education and Workforce Committee and a Member of CEE’s Board of Trustees, I share your commitment to improving STEM education and providing our teachers and students with the tools they need to succeed.”
CEE’s Bite of Science events will feature:
Tuesday, February 26, 2013
· Paul R. Selzer, Principal Calibration Engineer, Baxter Bioscience
· X. William Yang, M.D., Ph.D., Department of Psychiatry & Biobehavioral Sciences, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)
Wednesday, February 27, 2013
· Tia Lyles-Williams, Scientist/Bio-Manufacturing Associate, Baxter Bioscience
· Theodore Clarke, Adjunct Assistant Professor, Natural Sciences, Pasadena City College
The Bite of Science speakers will discuss their work and relate it back to the classroom for the teachers.
The goals of the Teacher Enrichment Program are to:
-Provide teachers with enhanced professional development
-Furnish the opportunity for teachers to ask questions and to interact directly with scientists and engineers
-Foster excitement in teachers to create an interest for students in STEM fields
-Inform teachers so they have a better understanding of research and development
-Allow teachers the opportunity to network with their peers
