Raleigh PDQ Fresh Tenders Fundraiser Brings Support to World T.E.A.M. Sports
A 14-year-old 8th grade student organized a successful fundraiser at PDQ Fresh Tenders in Raleigh, North Carolina that benefited the non-profit World T.E.A.M. Sports and its inclusive sports programs for disabled and able-bodied participants.
Raleigh, NC, February 28, 2013 --(PR.com)-- World T.E.A.M. Sports Chief Operating Officer Van Brinson gratefully accepted a check and cash donations totaling $170.16 at the PDQ Fresh Tenders in Raleigh following a fundraiser organized by 14-year-old 8th grade student Ally Christopher.
Seeking an innovative community service project, the energetic young woman was inspired by her father, Marine Corps Reserve Colonel Daniel Christopher to create an event benefiting the national non-profit organization.
“We applaud this young lady for her efforts,” said Brinson, a retired Marine who rode cross-country with World T.E.A.M. Sports’ 2010 Sea to Shining Sea bicycle ride with disabled veterans and regularly participates in the organization’s annual Face of America ride in Maryland.
Brinson met with Christopher and PDQ Fresh Tenders Operating Partner Anthony Reid at the Falls of Neuse store February 25. “We're proud to be working with your tremendous organization,” said store manager Brooks Briz.
“Sports and fitness are so important to me and I think what you do for the disabled is truly amazing,” said Christopher. “I am so inspired by these disabled athletes and what they accomplish. It makes me thankful for my heath and reminds me not to take it for granted.”
The Wake Forest Franklin Academy Middle School student is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and is an active runner. Discovering through Facebook that the local PDQ Fresh Tenders offered fundraising opportunities for non-profits, she contacted the restaurant and arranged for the February 8 fundraiser aiding World T.E.A.M. Sports.
“I could not have dreamed of something better!” said Christopher.
PDQ Fresh Tenders is a growing fast casual restaurant chain launched by a co-founder of the Outback Steakhouse in 2009. Featuring chicken tenders and sandwiches, hand-tossed salads and hand-spun milkshakes, the Florida-based chain currently has six restaurants in Florida and North Carolina, with three new outlets scheduled to open soon.
World T.E.A.M. Sports is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization chartered in North Carolina and headquartered in Holbrook, New York. Celebrating 20 years in 2013, World T.E.A.M. Sports has organized athletic events for disabled and able bodied citizens – mountain climbing, white water rafting, biking, and more. Four things always happen at our events: (1) Disabled participants build self-confidence and physical fitness; (2) The disabled provide a role model for other disabled citizens, encouraging them to take up physical activities; (3) The disabled become a moving inspiration to other participants and to spectators when they see that disabled individuals can meet challenges beyond anyone’s imagination; and (4) The disabled and able-bodied participants learn to work as a team to overcome those challenges.
