VASTEC and Knowbility Bring Experience and Capability to Accessibility Support in Texas

Dallas, TX, March 09, 2013 --(PR.com)-- VASTEC and Knowbility are teaming to expand capabilities to state and local governments, providing increased accessibility support to Texas state agencies. These efforts will ensure that websites, documents, and other electronic information are accessible to people with disabilities, in line with Federal government mandates through Section 508.

In October, the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) announced a new scanning program designed to monitor public websites for accessibility, and alert agencies when changes are required. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act refers to the Federal mandate that requires accessibility of electronic information to people with disabilities, and Texas has adopted its own requirements based on this and other best practices.

“Texas agencies are looking for experienced partners with the proper credentials, those who understand the process, and can navigate procedures and requirements,” said Shannon Kelly, VASTEC’s Section 508 Subject Matter Expert. “Our team’s combined capabilities make that available to address the advancing accessibility requirements in Texas.”

With longstanding headquarters in Austin, Knowbility has become the go-to source for accessibility support in Texas. Current projects include coordination of Statewide Electronic and Information Resources (EIR) Accessibility for the Texas Department of Information.

“Our goal is to create a barrier-free world of information technology so that people with disabilities can fully participate in the business, educational and cultural marketplace,” said Sharron Rush, Knowbility’s Executive Director. “Combined with VASTEC, we look forward to helping state agencies in Texas meet their accessibility needs.”

Having recently established an office in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, VASTEC’s accessibility expertise comes at the highest level of the Federal government, providing on-going accessibility support for the Social Security Administration and Internal Revenue Service. In addition, VASTEC has processed millions of confidential government records to Section 508 standards, for agencies including the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the General Services Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Together, the VASTEC and Knowbility team provides a multitude of services that can meet anticipated needs in Texas, among them:

· Website and web application testing, validation and remediation services.

· Development and creation of Fully Accessible Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 Compliant Templates and Forms, including templates, presentations, and fillable forms.

· Document Validation and Testing to Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 Accessibility standards.

· Paper and Microform Conversion and Scanning to Accessible digital formats.

· Section 508 Training.

“Texas officials are to be commended for their increased attention to these issues, to ensure that all citizens have equal access to information,” Kelly said. “But CIOs at state agencies now required to quickly address these issues don’t have to go it alone. VASTEC and Knowbility have the knowledge, tools and experience needed to provide customized accessibility solutions for any Texas agency.”
