Mark Claywell Signs with Sedna Films
Santa Monica, CA, August 08, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Mark Claywell, the director/cameraman who, through an award-winning 60-second TV spot entitled “New Day” helped remind New Yorkers that their city and way of life would prevail despite the tragedy of 9/11, recently signed with Santa Monica-based Sedna Films, a commercial production company, for West Coast representation.
“I’ve worked with [Sedna’s owner and executive producer Dirk Detweiler] off and on for years and wanted to work together more,” Claywell said of his new deal. “He has the right attitude and outlook. I’ve also wanted an L.A. based company because I haven’t had a rep on the West Coast for years, yet I love working out there -- great crews, all the best gear.” A resident of Savannah, GA, he added, “In this day and age, you don’t have to live in California to work there.”
Mark Claywell graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina’s media art department in 1984. To learn various jobs inside of the advertising/production business, he worked at a small advertising agency, a television station, and freelanced as a director of photography before joining Boulevard Films in Charlotte, NC, in 1992.
From 1995 to 1997, Claywell worked as a director/cameraman with Fireside Productions in Atlanta, GA, before moving to New York City to join Celsius Films. In March of 2001, he signed with Highway 61, where his clients included Pfizer, Nature’s Own, United Way, and New York State Tourism.
“New Day” was the first New York City tourism spot to run after September 11, 2001, and the basis for other campaigns and initiatives that won both praise and a major award from the Advertising Club of New York.
Besides national and international commercial work, Claywell recently completed his first full-length screenplay and is in production on his first feature documentary entitled “American Mujahideen.”
When asked what he believes he brings to Sedna Films, Claywell replied, “a wide range of experience. I do lots of different types of work -- on-camera speaking, real people, image-driven contemporary visuals. But they’re always done with a heart and from a human perspective. I also shoot and direct so I bring a lot of technical knowledge to the show.”
As the newest name on the Sedna Films roster, Mark Claywell joins filmmakers Steve Bruni, Marc Dobiecki, Jon Hill, Hugo Pallete, Garry Waller, and Allen Weiss.
Sedna Films is a member of the Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP). Clients include TNT, Shell, Panasonic, Honda, Sony/BMG, Vespa, UNICEF, The NBA, and The Weather Channel.
Sedna Films is represented on the west coast by Lisa Schreiber of Boardalicous in Hermosa Beach, CA (lisa@sednafilms.com), on the east coast by Rich Schafler of Schafler Artists Management in New York, NY (rich@sednafilms.com) and in the mid-west by Dwayne Petch of Petch and Company in Westerville, Ohio (Dwayne@sednafilms.com).
