Author Patricia Polacco Headlines Anti-Bullying Professional Development Event at Mackin Educational Resources

Mackin’s anti-bullying professional development seminar on April 20, 2013, is structured to provide educators with the tools they need to successfully deal with the problem of bullying in schools.

Burnsville, MN, March 14, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Mackin Educational Resources, a leading distributor of PK-12 library and curriculum materials, is expanding its professional development offerings to include on-site events at its Burnsville, Minnesota, headquarters.

Mackin’s first on-site professional development event will focus on strategies to prevent bullying and will feature two hours with Patricia Polacco via Skype. She will discuss bullying prevention tips and her book about cyberbullying, Bully (2012, Putnam Publishing). Though a well-known author and illustrator of children’s books today, Polacco spent much of her childhood as the target of bullies.

“We are honored to host this professional development event for educators at our Burnsville headquarters,” said Randal Heise. “It is a privilege to provide a forum for Patricia Polacco to share her insights and wisdom about a significant topic that needs more attention in schools and in society—bullying.”

According to The U.S. Department of Justice Community-Oriented Policing Services, there are higher levels of bullying in America than in some other countries. In fact, studies show between 10 and 30 percent of students report being bullied or being bullies. Unfortunately, very few noninvolved students provide assistance to victims of bullying. Further, two-thirds of bullied students believe school professions respond poorly to incidents they observe.

Mackin’s anti-bullying professional development seminar is structured to provide educators with the tools they need to successfully deal with the problem of bullying in schools. The seminar is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Mackin Educational Resources, 3505 County Road 42 West in Burnsville, Minnesota. Seating is limited, so early registration is recommended. The registration fee, $25 for those who preregister or $30 at the door, includes two continuing education credits (CEUs) for Minnesota educators, an autographed copy of Bully, and a continental breakfast. Attendees will also be eligible to receive a discount on six additional titles by Patricia Polacco.
