The Guardian Angels Launch Reality TV Series on FirstRun.tv Network
Angels In Action! will capture on camera the real-life patrols of the volunteer organization’s efforts to safeguard neighborhoods and take back the streets.
Los Angeles, CA, March 16, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Alliance of the Guardian Angels has announced a new reality/documentary television series that will follow the activities of its volunteer safety patrol teams as they provide peaceful solutions to safeguarding neighborhoods, schools and streets. With chapters in 14 countries and 144 cities, the new series, Angels In Action!, will depict the ways in which the Guardian Angel patrol teams respond to calls from individuals pleading for help to overcome violence and crime in their communities. Production of Angels In Action! has begun in the New York area, and will be broadcast on the FirstRun.tv Network (www.FirstRun.tv). Activities of Guardian Angels in other cities and countries will also be featured in future episodes.
Curtis Sliwa, Founder of the Guardian Angels, will serve as host and narrator of the series. Sliwa formed the Guardian Angels in 1979 when he worked as a McDonalds night manager in a crime-ridden area of the Bronx. Saddened by his city's deterioration, he took matters into his own hands by organizing a volunteer, weapon-free patrol of thirteen people to take the subways, the streets and the neighborhood back from crime. With their signature red berets, the Guardian Angels have since become a global icon representing the preservation of safety on the streets. With their motto, Keeping It Safe, the Angels have been embraced and supported by mayors and police departments in their bravery and non-violent methods in assisting the keeping of the peace.
The mission of The Guardian Angels has grown and diversified. In 1990 Sliwa took his message to new heights when he became a morning personality on WABC Radio in New York in 1990. He is now heard daily on WNYM Radio. The organization now has programs to motivate teachers, parents, and children to create a safer future, including personal safety, civic contribution, violence prevention and cyber security.
Angels in Action will be true life, factual show. “There are so many so-called reality shows on TV that are somewhat fabricated and don’t truthfully depict the real world,” said Sliwa. “Situations are sometimes set up and manipulated by the producers. The day-to-day activities of the Guardian Angels are as genuine as you can get and will be shown exactly as the events take place. It shows real volunteer patrols encountering real situations on the streets, and taking real action, all without violence or weapons. Angels in Action is an honest reality show”, he added.
The Angels in Action! reality series will be a flagship program on FirstRun.tv, an online network launched in 2011 by Gary Kleinman, a former Walt Disney Studios Vice President. FirstRun.tv was designed ground-up to support and advance television’s shift to the web. The network features ten channels of new shows from independent producers, and can be viewed free on any smartphone, tablet, notebook, desktop computer, browser-capable gaming consoles, web-ready TV sets, and the Roku streaming player. Free apps are available for iPhones and Android phones. Angels In Action! is being produced in association with FirstRun.tv’s production wing, StoryArc New Media.
