Jeffersonville, IN, March 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- On Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 6:30 - 7:30PM, Jan Hurst, a Kentuckiana artist from Jeffersonville IN will showcase her art at the Jeffersonville Township Public Library's Jeffersonville location in a presentation on the art of paper craft. Hurst is the owner of Jan Hurst Calligraphy & Design. This is a part of the library's series "ArtSpace: Learn Create Enjoy."
From card making and iconage, a photo transfer method she used when she was first experimenting with paper crafts, Hurst has expanded her repertoire to include calligraphy, watercolor, collage, digital collage and mixed media paintings on canvas. The paper arts have been a huge portion of her art experience, and she uses beautiful specialty papers in some of her hand made books. Paper plays a huge part in her wedding calligraphy business as well.
When she was bedfast many years ago due to an injury, she began experimenting with card making, tearing magazine pictures into bird or flower shapes and gluing them to cardstock. These designs led her to making larger collages, and it was natural to add her calligraphy practice sheets to her collages, joining her love of both words and paper.
Hurst, a professional wedding calligrapher, will speak about and share examples from her journey through the arts at the library Thursday night, and if time allows may demonstrate calligraphy.
