Santa Monica, CA, March 19, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Hitch your trailer, grab your helmet and hop on your bicycle to deliver meals on two wheels to homebound residents of Santa Monica.
On Thursday March 21th bicycle enthusiasts will gather at 10:00 am at the offices of Meals On Wheels West, 1823 Michigan Ave., Santa Monica 90404. Teams will be dispatched on client routes with hot and cold meals in their trailers. With support from C.I.C.L.E., Santa Monica SPOKE and Sustainable Streets the volunteers will cruise the bicycle friendly streets of Santa Monica. These volunteers like the daily volunteers who use cars, deliver food and friendship to neighbors who are unable to shop and prepare nutritious meals for themselves. The services of Meals On Wheels West aids those with limited mobility due to age, disability or chronic illness to be comfortable in their own homes. Low care neighbors prefer to stay at home and not move to expensive care facilities.
The March for Meals event is part of a national campaign to highlight the services of Meals On Wheels programs throughout the country and increase awareness of senior hunger. Each night more than 6 million Americans over the age of 60 go to sleep hungry because they lack the money or mobility to obtain food.
