Packington Free Range Create Nation’s Favourite Bacon Sandwich with a Local Flavour
Packington Free Range, the Staffordshire-based pig producer has united with other local producers to create a bacon sandwich using the best of locally sourced ingredients.
Staffordshire, United Kingdom, March 21, 2013 --(PR.com)-- According to a poll of Britain’s 50 greatest national treasures, we are a nation of bacon lovers, with the bacon sandwich taking number one position above the traditional roast dinner and even a cup of tea.
Packington free Range (http://www.packingtonfreerange.co.uk/ ) is celebrating this with "The Staffy" sandwich, a bacon sandwich with a local Staffordshire flavour, using the finest local ingredients from other local producers alongside its own locally cured free range bacon.
To create the nation’s favourite culinary treat, Packington Free Range joined forces with local food producers, Lichfield-based Hindleys Bakers (http://www.hindleys-bakers.co.uk/ ) and Cottage Delight (http://www.cottagedelight.co.uk/ ), from Leek. The key ingredients of bacon, bread and of course, lashings of sauce that make up "The Staffy" sandwich, are all locally sourced, grown, prepped and cooked. Packington Free Range have been rearing pigs locally for four generations, producing top quality bacon. The sandwich itself is made from Staffordshire spelt bread and Cottage Delight’s Bacon Butty Sauce - a secret recipe that packs a slight punch and adds a twist to the classic recipe.
Perhaps one of the reasons for the popularity of the bacon sandwich, besides its classically British appeal, is the fact that it transcends all seasons. A warming treat in the winter months or topped with salad in the summer, it’s hard to beat. "The Staffy" offers a salad topping of tomatoes, roasted pimento peppers, spinach leaves and ripe avocado, although of course locally grown seasonal salad can always be added if preferred. This mix of superfoods makes for a refreshing accompaniment to Packington’s bacon, and a drizzle of Bacon Butty Sauce provides the heat that our British summer may well be missing.
Packington Free Range Partner, Alec Mercer has said, “We’re proud to be from Staffordshire and we want people to know about the quality of food available on their doorstep. Everyone loves bacon sandwiches, and we think that everyone should love their local butchers and bakers too.
‘’Packington feel that it’s important to help install confidence in consumers about the quality, reliability and traceability factor of buying local produce. We hope to continue encouraging people to support their local food producers.’’
