Allen received her medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine at Memphis, and served her residency in general surgery at UNC Hospitals at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Upon graduating, she completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at the University of Kentucky, Lexington. Allen is a member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), which ensures that her education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the ACS.
