What’s Trending in Egypt in 2013?
Cairo, Egypt, March 31, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Recent analysis conducted by Yellow Media, the Local Search Company, of search activity on its popular Yellow.com.eg website indicates some interesting trends for Egypt – the country’s zeitgeist, or “spirit of the times.”
Yellow Media’s analysis of multitudes of search queries on Yellow.com.eg during 2012 revealed, among other things, that Arabic-language searches now account for more than double the number of English-language searches on the website. During the year, 68% of all Yellow.com.eg searches were performed in Arabic, while only 32% were in English. In 2010 – the year that Arabic searches first surpassed English searches on the website – these figures stood at 54% for Arabic-language searches and 46% English-language searches in 2010.
“We’ve both played an active role in the trend toward greater localization of technology, as well as serving the demands that it imparts upon businesses and society,” said Marc Lambert, Regional Managing Director for Egypt Yellow Pages Ltd. “Egyptians, both customers and businesses, have increasingly demanded greater Arabic-language online content, and we have gladly provided it,” he added.
The top 10 category searches on Yellow.com.eg in 2012, in order of popularity, were: restaurants; hotels; pharmacies; banks; furniture; real estate; doctors/hospitals; nurseries/schools; gyms; and supermarkets. Nine of the top 10 categories are the same as in 2010, with only slight changes in their ranking. In 2012, “gyms” replaced “advertising” on the top 10 list.
The 10 most searched companies on Yellow.com.eg in 2012 were: Spectra; KFC; Cook Door; Shabrawy; Gad; Momen; Koshary El-Tahrir; McDonald’s; Cilantro; and Abu Shakra.
