Photron Introduces a Light-Sensitive, High-Speed Camera System with Direct Download to Onboard SD Cards – Fastcam SA-X2
Delivers up to 13,500 fps at 1,024 x 1,000 (12-bit) megapixel resolution.
San Diego, CA, April 04, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Photron, Inc., a global leader and manufacturer of high speed cameras and image analysis software, announces the Fastcam SA-X2 high speed camera system. The new 20-µm-square pixel CMOS sensor captures more light than any other high speed camera available when tested to the official version of the ISO 12232 Ssat method. The innovative camera technology is specially designed to perfectly balance the extremely high frame rate, image resolution, dynamic range, and light sensitivity. This new combination delivers superb, highest quality imaging for the most demanding and sophisticated high speed imaging applications.
Andrew Bridges, Photron’s director of sales & marketing, notes, “Photron has taken the approach of utilizing a media that everyone has access to - SD card technology. This eliminates the need for customized technology costing thousands of dollars and requiring special replay/off-load hardware. With commercial SD cards available in the 128 GB range, it makes better sense to pay $150 than $50,000 for the same memory capacity.”
The Fastcam SA-X2 provides up to 13,500 fps at megapixel resolution. The highest frame rate performance, up to 1 million fps at reduced resolution, is available in the SA-X2 Model 1000K. Photron’s unsurpassed 293 ns shutter time on the new SA-X2 enables imaging high velocity events with effectively no motion blur, compared to competitive models.
In addition to dual SD card storage, the SA-X2 has a high-speed, dual-Gigabit Ethernet interface. This allows easy integration, reliable system communication, and fast, dependable image download rates with down load speeds of 8 GB per minute. With the ability to partition the available memory (8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB onboard options are available), it is possible to download one partition while recording high speed videos to another. Applications include combustion research, materials science, fluid dynamics (PIV), defense & aerospace research, ballistics testing, and shock waves and detonation imaging. Photron’s Fastcam SA-X2 is available with both a C-mount and a Nikon G-type-compatible F-mount lens, with optional support for Canon EF lenses, including control of both iris and focus via Photron Fastcam Viewer (PFV) software. PFV also includes wrappers for MATLAB and LabVIEW as well as compatibility with specific National Instruments™ USB data acquisition (DAQ) modules for easy integration of external analog signal data with the high-speed video. For added convenience, the software development kit allows integration with user-specific software and the new, automated motion-analysis plug-in software, Photron Fastcam Analysis (PFA) is now included. An optional, sealed Range Version enclosure protects the camera from environmental contamination from dust, dirt and other materials.
