The Cottages at Clear Lake Opens an Additional Luxury Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Residence
Clear Lake, TX, April 07, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Cottages at Clear Lake, an assisted living residence specializing in care of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders, completed an additional luxury residence, The North Cottage, that is now open. These high-end, luxury residences are unique in their design and offer an individualized level of quality care. The Cottages at Clear Lake is a fully licensed assisted living facility with Alzheimer’s Care Certification by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services.
The 48 well-appointed private apartments at the North Cottage feature a variety of floor plans, most conducive for couples, that include private suites with a bedroom, separate sitting area and a full bath with shower. Additionally, the Cottages at Clear Lake residents enjoy outdoor activities in secure backyard gardens.
“The Cottage concept is designed with the dementia resident in mind,” said Lynda Canas, Director of Operations for The Cottages. “Our nurturing and cottage-like setting allows residents to live the best quality of life with emotional and physical care that is tailored to an individual’s needs. Placing a loved one into the care of others is a tough decision for family members; however, we find our residents transition and acclimate quickly to their new home.”
The Cottages care concept is inspired by Mayo Clinic’s involvement at the original Cottages built in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Individual cottages of eight to 12 residents provide a home-like and familiar atmosphere, easing the transition and providing comfort to the individual. Each cottage has a residential kitchen, dining room, living room, a large family room with expansive views and a well-manicured garden. Meals, activities and daily programs are developed around smaller “family” groups within each town home.
“I chose The Cottages because in addition to the helpful staff, the environment was the right size and it was bright, sunny and cheerful,” said Darlene H., daughter of a resident. “The staff helped me understand the Alzheimer’s disease process and helped my mother by being a friend and advocate for her health matters. I can’t say enough positive things about the facility, staff and the services they provide.”
The Cottages has been the leader in Alzheimer’s care in the Panhandle, Central and South Texas since 1997 and now offers the North Cottage in addition to the original South Cottage at Clear Lake. Both Cottages feature a luxury finish out, the state-of-the-art Vigil Dementia System™, a secured property, nurse staffing seven days a week and an onsite chef.
Alzheimer’s is a degenerative disease affecting the brain that results in memory loss, behavioral changes and reduction in language and speech skills. According to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, it is estimated that more than 5.1 million Americans suffer from the disease today. The Alzheimer’s Association estimates one in eight older Americans have Alzheimer’s disease. The incidence of Alzheimer’s disease is rising in line with the aging population, which means that it will more than double in the next 30 years as the next generation ages. Current research from the National Institute on Aging indicates that the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease doubles every five years beyond age 65.
