Nikon Challenges Filipino Photographers in the UAE to an On-the-Spot Shoot Out Challenge
Nikon supports Filipina empowerment via photo competition to be held during the Day of Sisterhood
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, April 12, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Nikon, the global leader in photography products, and Illustrado Magazine, a Dubai-based Filipino lifestyle magazine, partner once again to promote Filipina empowerment in the Gulf by holding the most challenging photography competition. The “Nikon Portrait Shootout Challenge” will test the skills of budding photographers in a no-Photoshop, no-photo manipulation tricks, and real-time on-the-spot contest.
A total of 30 photographers will battle it out in a 5-minute click and download shoot-out featuring ten of the most beautiful Filipina faces in the community. The shoot-out will be held as culminating activity of the Day of Sisterhood event, a free for women-only event focusing on common issues of Filipinas in the region, happening on April 12, 2013 at Almas Tower Ballroom in Jumeirah Lakes Towers. Winners of the competition will be announced during the event but there will also be a Facebook campaign in search for the People’s Choice.
The collaboration between Nikon and Illustrado dates back four years ago when the former started supporting the Women of Substance event, an advocacy aimed to promote Filipina empowerment. According to Shaji Shanmughan, Brand Manager at Nikon, “Over the years of productive and meaningful partnership with Illustrado, we pursue the brand’s mission in encouraging photography aficionados to celebrate life and capture natural beauty through competitions.”
He added, “We also believe that this challenging shoot-out will further engage the avid community photographers in working towards their dreams of producing great quality images.”
Lalaine Chu-Benitez, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Illustrado, said, “We have tremendous appreciation to the likes of Nikon which understand our efforts to uplift the image of Filipinas in the Gulf. The photo competitions we held with them for the past years during the Women of Substance event were all successful not only in marking the various facets of the beauty of the Filipinas but also in stamping the innate talents of numerous Filipino photography enthusiasts.”
She furthered, “I am certain that this year’s Nikon Portrait Shoot-out Challenge will again be a fun and interactive way of achieving their mission and our advocacy.”
In order to be chosen, budding photographers are asked to send an email to admin@illustrado.net with one best portrait shot. The top 15 photographers will be chosen to participate during the shoot-out. Deadline for submission of entries is on April 9, 2013.
On the other hand, the other set of competing photographers will be chosen through Wild Card category wherein a draw of 15 names will be made among photographers who register and come to the event at 2pm sharp. Registration in Wild Card category should be via phone confirmation to Illustrado’s office.
