A Great American Bake Sale to End Childhood Hunger Takes Place on August 17, 2007 in Downtown Long Beach
A traditional bake sale fundraiser is being hosted as a small event to tell a big story about addressing childhood hunger in America.
Long Beach, CA, August 13, 2007 --(PR.com)-- On Friday, August 17, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., an event of great significance will take place at Farmer's Market (near CityPlace; between 3rd & 4th Streets and Long Beach Blvd.) in downtown Long Beach, California. Long Beach-based event planning and production company, Bravo Productions, will do its part in fighting childhood hunger in America by hosting a Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale. This fundraiser is part of a national campaign that mobilizes people of all ages to help end childhood hunger in America by holding bake sales in their communities.
Bravo Productions has received support from gourmet bakeries as far away as Arizona to local restaurants, bakeries and catering companies throughout the Los Angeles area. All proceeds from the bake sale will benefit Share Our Strength, with unsold baked goods to be given to the Long Beach Rescue Mission. “We have fresh brownies, cookies, tarts, breads, cakes, pies and many more delicious treats,” says Greg Jenkins, partner of Bravo Productions.
"It’s hard to believe that in a country with limitless resources, millions of children are at risk of hunger,” says Jenkins. “Wherever you find an American family suffering from food insecurity, you will most surely find one of America’s ugliest secrets: its 12.4 million children at risk."
The recent McClatchy Newspapers analysis of Census Bureau statistics sounded such an alarm when it revealed that the percentage of poor Americans living in severe poverty is higher today than it was in 1975. The number of severely poor Americans grew by 26 percent from 2000 to 2005. That’s 56 percent faster than the overall poverty population grew in the same period.
Individuals can make a monetary contribution to this worthwhile cause by visiting www.greatamericanbakesale.org, Proceed to "find a bake sale," and then type in Downtown Long Beach Bake Sale.
