Small Businesses More Interested in Search Engine Optimization
Article Directories Seen as Cost-Effective Way to Get More Visibility for the Small Business Website
Los Angeles, CA, August 14, 2007 --(PR.com)-- More and more small businesses are getting involved in search engine optimization, including optimizing their web sites to appear high in Google’s rankings.
Search engine optimization, where a site is set up to rank well with the search engines, involves two basic steps: “on page optimization” where the pages are set up to rank well for certain keywords, and “off page optimization,” where links are built up to the site from other sites. On its web site, Google states that it considers the links to a web site to be the most important factor in ranking a site.
John Eberhard, President of RealWebMarketing.net (http://www.realwebmarketing.net) , a search marketing firm in Los Angeles catering to small business, stated “We see more of our small business clients interested in search engine optimization this year than ever before. Since Google values inbound links to a web site above all else, we advise them that submitting articles to article directories is one of the best ways to build volume links to a web site in a relatively short time. I do not tell people to just put up quality content and that people will find them. Maybe that works for Microsoft and Coca-Cola, but it never works for a small business site. Article directory submissions are a proactive thing that a business owner can do to take control of their search engine rankings.”
There are currently over 1,000 article directories on the web, most with over 100,000 articles of content. A small business owner can write an article related to the topic of his business, including a “bio box” containing his name, company name, and web site address, then submit that to the directories. Each one that publishes the article now counts as a link to the business owner’s web site. There are several software packages on the market that partially automate the submission process. Once you register at a number of the article directories, which is required by most, a business owner can submit an article to 40-60 directories per hour.
