Trek For Autism Event Featuring Original Cast Members to Benefit AchieveKids Schools

Cupertino, CA, April 18, 2013 --(PR.com)-- BlueLight Cinemas at Cupertino Oaks will host the first Trek for Autism fundraiser featuring original cast members from the television series Star Trek on Saturday, April 27 at 11:00 am and 6:00 pm. and Sunday, April 28 at 11:00 am. CBS Television Distribution has sponsored a special screening of Star Trek’s original series episodes of Menagerie: Part I & II to be shown at all event sessions. A portion of ALL proceeds will be donated to AchieveKids.
Arlene Martel who played Spock’s intended bride, T’Ping, and Sean Kenney who played Captain Pike will hold special screenings along with a Q&A session and be available for book signings and photo opportunities. Martel is the author of Mixed Messages, a personal account of the undefeatable power of love, and Kenney is the author of Captain Pike Found Alive which chronicles his odyssey as an iconic character in the original Star Trek series. “We are honored to have both Sean and Arlene come to Cupertino from Hollywood to support a great cause and share their personal and professional experiences,” said Art Cohen, CEO of Bluelight Cinemas. “Arlene’s personal survival story battling cancer and remarkable career in a long list of popular television programs along with Sean’s unique character roles will make for a fascinating Q&A,” continued Cohen.
Dr. Michael Gennette, Executive Director of AchieveKids will provide a brief update on Autism Today. AchieveKids schools provide individualized and multi-disciplinary programs that deliver special education, mental health, and family support services for students ages 5 to 22 who have complex and often severe developmental, emotional, and behavioral challenges. AchieveKids has two campuses in Palo Alto and San Jose.
An estimated one in 88 children in the U.S. is on the autism spectrum – a 78 percent increase in six years that is only partly explained by improved diagnosis.
Tickets are available for $50 online at www.bluelightcinemas.com. Kids Only tickets are available for $20 for those 13-17 and Kids 12 and Under are free with a paying adult. In addition to local sponsors, local actor JD Charisma will be attending the April 27th 6pm show, supporting the event. Local government sponsors including the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce, Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce and Vice Mayor Gilbert Wong will be attending the events. Invitations to other local government officials have gone out to Assemblyman Paul Fong and Congressman Mike Honda who support the great efforts AchieveKids is doing.
