Hands Off Point Nepean Says Local Real Estate Agent
Mornington, Australia, April 19, 2013 --(PR.com)-- In an extremely rare move a Mornington Peninsula real estate agent has opposed plans to develop property.
Luke Woollard from PILOT Real Estate Agents in Mornington has voiced his opposition to the State Government’s plan to develop Point Nepean National Park.
Woollard believes the area’s current tourist attractions could be maintained and improved without inviting possible hotel and restaurant developments which he believes would "adversely impact the character of a significant historic location."
He said, "there are already many opportunities for tourists to find accommodation and restaurants in nearby Portsea and Sorrento village."
“The proposed education campus is absolutely unnecessary in this pristine location,” Woollard remarked adding that “scientific research could be carried out in remote Point Nepean without the establishment of new accommodation buildings.”
“Not only is it disappointing that the proposal was brought about, but it’s even more disheartening that our Government intends to invite private developers to participate.”
Woollard believes that private corporations will be primarily focussed on maximising their investment which will not necessarily align with the public interest or the Governments stated goal "to ensure Victorians are able to better enjoy the State’s world class natural assets."
He added that “I think our Government should be seeking to preserve sites of historic importance not redevelop them,” and he encouraged people who shared the same views to write to the Department of Environment and Primary Industries and voice their concerns over the Point Nepean National Park master plan (available for viewing at http://www.dse.vic.gov.au).
PILOT real estate agents are involved in the sale, leasing and management of real estate on the Mornington Peninsula. The company previously operated for 5 years on Queensland’s Gold Coast selling accommodation apartments which Woollard says made him more socially aware of conservation issues.
