Fuentek Publishes White Paper on Technology Transfer's Use of Social Media
Paper Provides Survey Findings and Recommendations for Maximizing Positive Impact.
Apex, NC, April 19, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Laura A. Schoppe, president of Fuentek, LLC (http://www.fuentek.com/), a local consulting firm that provides intellectual property (IP) and technology transfer services, has announced the release of the company’s white paper, The State of Social Media in Tech Transfer: 2013 Survey Results and Recommendations. Written by Fuentek senior consultant Danielle McCulloch and social media lead Nancy Pekar, the white paper presents the findings of an online survey of more than 100 technology transfer professionals designed to determine social media’s role in their daily operations and its impact on their technology transfer office (TTO).
The survey, which was conducted as part of a panel entitled “Social Media Unplugged: Is it Worth The Hype” at the 2013 Association of University Technology Managers® (AUTM®) annual meeting, revealed that many TTOs are using social media—particularly LinkedIn and Twitter. Most plan to keep using social media and find it an effective tool for building the TTO’s brand as well as for marketing the institution’s technologies and research. Respondents also offered a variety of insights characterizing social media’s impact on their TTO.
In addition to presenting an analysis of survey responses, Fuentek’s paper includes recommendations for achieving the positive effects realized by some TTOs while avoiding the negative situations cited by others.

“TTO usage of social media tools has seen dramatic growth since our last survey 2 years ago,” said Schoppe. “The real-world examples and tips offered by survey respondents and based on our experience that are presented in this paper will help readers achieve positive outcomes at their own TTO.”
