Brooklyn Youth Examine Life on the Streets of Brooklyn and for Youth in Darfur with Their Stirring Production of "the Gift"
Brooklyn, NY, August 15, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Brooklyn based, Revelation Performing Arts Studio’s, Shared Theatre Education Program (S.T.E.P), is dedicating their summer production “The Gift” to Help Darfur Now, Inc. (HDN)
“The Gift” depicts life on the streets of Brooklyn and in Darfur through the eyes of young people and “The Gift” of God’s love that is available to everyone no matter what your circumstances are. S.T.E.P operates out of Brooklyn’s Intermediate School 296 / The Halsey Middle School and has also signed on as new chapter members for HDN in an effort to raise money and awareness for the genocide victims in Darfur, Sudan.
S.T.E.P. is a year-round arts and education after school and summer arts institute program offered by Revelation Performing Arts Studio. S.T.E.P is run in partnership with the Lincoln Center Institute and, the New York State Education Department –NYSED. Students delve deep into the art forms of dance, step, theatre, music and visual arts. Students also receive professional training, participate in arts and education activities, attend professional performances and produce their own “works of arts.” Intermediate School 296 / The Halsey Middle School , located at 125 Covert Street in Brooklyn, is currently the first school in New York City to offer Revelation’s unique Shared Theatre Education Program in house with full-time Revelation staff members on site daily.
The S.T.E.P students will be holding their summer recital, “The Gift” on Wednesday, August 22nd at 6PM in the Halsey Middle School Auditorium. Admission is free and proceeds from the sale of “Help Darfur Now” merchandise will be donated to HelpDarfurNow.org. A special afternoon dress rehearsal performance will be held for local youth groups and summer camps prior to the August 22nd performance.
