Bobby Bowden to Keynote at Workers' Compensation Educational Conference
Legendary former Coach Bobby Bowden will deliver a keynote address at the Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference on August 19 in Orlando.
Orlando, FL, April 25, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Legendary former Florida State University Football Coach Bobby Bowden will deliver a keynote address at the 68th annual Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference (WCEC) on August 19 in Orlando.
“We are extremely pleased to have someone with the stature, character, and reputation of Coach Bowden address our convention,” says WCEC General Chairman James N. McConnaughhay. “He is a wonderful complement to our industry keynote speaker, Sedgwick President and CEO David North. Both men are leaders in their respective fields and widely recognized for the energy and commitment they bring to their work. While Coach Bowden is retired now, he remains a pivotal force for football and student athletes.”
Bowden, who is known as much for his affable charm as he is for his championship teams, holds the NCAA record for most career wins and bowl wins by a Division I FBS coach. He coached young men for seven decades, and spent 34 years with the Florida State Seminoles football team before retiring in 2009. He guided the Seminoles to more than three hundred victories, two national championships, and 12 Atlantic Coast Conference titles, finishing in the top five in the country in 14 straight seasons. He also led the Seminoles to Bowl Games in 28 consecutive seasons during his 34-year tenure.
The patriarch of college footballs most famous coaching family, Bowden remains heavily involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, annually awarding The National Bobby Bowden Award to a student-athlete for achievement on and off the field, including his conduct as a faith model in the community. Bowden was inducted into the College Hall of Fame in 2006. He and his wife of 61 years, Ann, live in Tallahassee, Fla.
WCEC is the largest gathering of its kind in the nation. Attendance at the August 18 - 21 convention at the Orlando World Center Marriott is expected to top 8,000, drawing participants from across the nation and a number of foreign countries.
