PSI Engineering & Bastian Material Handling Speed Up Pharmaceutical Packaging Insert Line with 100% Accuracy
Mississauga, Canada, August 16, 2007 --(PR.com)-- PSI Engineering, an industry leader in material handling automation, provided their industry first technology for a project headed by Bastian Material Handling, to increase the throughput and ensure the safe packaging of biopharmaceutical inserts for their client, a well-known pharmaceutical distribution company.
Due to the increased order demand for their pharmaceutical products, Bastian’s customer required a total solution that would increase the speed and efficiency of their pharmaceutical packaging by packaging medication with the appropriate information document. Their customer originally used reciprocating placers on another line within their distribution center; however this system did not provide the throughput, consistency and document tracking they required. They encountered difficulty scanning bar codes which created bottlenecks on the line.
Bastian investigated other friction feeding systems, yet none could guarantee the speed and bar code tracking that their customer needed for their increased business. Moreover, these systems were not capable of dispensing the variety of inserts with reliability; specifically feeding multiple-paged documents.
As a result, Bastian partnered with PSI Engineering to supply an industry first automation solution. “PSI’s LC In-Feeder 3000 was a natural fit for this demanding project,” states John Panunto, President of PSI. “This feeder has the versatility to effectively and efficiently feed various document inserts and produce results at a rate of thirty inserts per minute; a speed that is faster than other friction feeding systems on the market today,” concludes Panunto. With its “load-on-the-fly” technology the LC In-Feeder 3000 continues to operate even as replenishment documents are added, eliminating costly downtime. In addition, PSI also customized the software to transmit product data directly into the warehouse control system (WCS) for increased efficiency and tracking.
By integrating PSI Engineering’s LC In-Feeder 3000, Bastian provided their customer with a total solution that increased the speed and efficiency of their new packaging operation on time and under budget, while maintaining their commitment to pharmaceutical consumer safety.
