When Great Tragedy Haunts a Man’s Soul — A Powerful New Novel Explores the High Price of Revenge

Los Angeles, CA, August 16, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Voice of Conscience is a tale of love and revenge that plays itself out on three continents. It follows the story of an adolescent boy who must flee from his native Turkey to save his life after the brutal murder of his family. As he grows into manhood, he is successful outwardly, taking on all the trappings of a normal life. Ultimately though he must come face to face with the legacy of revenge that has been carefully handed down from father to son.

It is 1962, in the village of Atamkoy, as all are celebrating the impending marriage of fourteen-year-old Ramzi Ozcomert’s beautiful sister. Then in a terrible act of revenge, Ramzi’s father, mother and sister are murdered, and Ramzi escapes to Istanbul with the help of his aunt and uncle. As his fear of hidden enemies increases, he takes refuge in London, England, and there he matures into a cultured, educated man. He meets an American woman who captures his heart and marries her against her father’s wishes. Even though he is able to conquer the obstacles placed before him to become a man of wealth and prominence in the United States, he remains continually haunted by the murders. Awake or asleep, the images of his lost loved ones burn in his mind, and the seed of vengeance intensifies within him. Obsessed by what he is sure he must do, he returns to his homeland.

“He closed his eyes, willing sleep, and when it came, also came the jumbled dreams. Dreams of strangling a man who looked like the older son of the Elder Korucu. Dreams of walking endless, dark corridors, emerging from the darkness, entering again into infinite darkness. An eternity would pass after his death and still his enemies would find him and kill him. That was the way of life, to kill someone and be killed was all the same thing.”

In this passionate, fluidly penned novel, author Behcet Kaya begins his story by transporting readers to the land of his birth, bringing to life all of the sights, sounds and smells of a place steeped in centuries of tradition and exacting customs. Soon, however, we are drawn into the tragic story of Kaya’s main character, Ramzi, who, as he seeks to overcome the pain of the past, may instead lose his future.
