G2 Energy Chooses Union Square to Support Growth

Nottingham, United Kingdom, May 01, 2013 --(PR.com)-- G2 Energy, established in 2006, is an electrical and civil engineering business specialising in grid connections for the renewable energy sector. With an annual turnover of £12 million, and over 35 members of staff, the business has experienced rapid growth over recent years, prompting the need for a more controlled approach to document and information management.

G2 Energy was fast outgrowing its IT infrastructure and was keen to act before the business felt the strain, as Managing Director, Gary Gay explains. “As the business grew we realised we needed a more robust solution for document management. Our current processes rely heavily on human involvement and we felt that a more automated approach would give us better control over the information passing through our business. We also needed a solution that would bring together all our documents and information so that we could access everything from the same place. As it stands information is spread out and saved in various locations which could present issues around governance if we’re not careful.”

A phone call from Union Square coincided with the start of G2 Energy’s search for a new IT system and Gary arranged a demonstration of the sector specific software solution. Union Square for AEC Professionals is a centralised system for managing documents, drawings and emails against corporate and project databases. Built around industry best practice, the system offers a host of additional functionality aimed at streamlining business processes and maximising efficiency.

After a full review of the system Gary realised, not only would it address all the business’s document management concerns, it would also streamline core business processes such as Marketing and Finance for a truly integrated way of working. “The Union Square system meets all our requirements and more. We were particularly impressed with the way it handles job costing and project financials. By integrating directly with our Sage financial ledger we’ll only have to enter data once to output numerous reports and track profitability at both a project and corporate level,” says Gary.

G2 Energy plans to roll the system out across the whole business in two phases. Once the databases and document management functionality are up and running they will introduce the Project Accounting module. These plans have been communicated across the business and the team looks forward to realising the many business benefits. “Good, clear document management, robust monitoring, a quality database for detailed reporting and an integrated approach to project costing will enable us to be more efficient and reinvest the time and cost savings back into the business as we grow,” Gary concludes.
