LynuxWorks Awarded Most Significant New Software Product at Design West Conference
LynxSecure embedded hypervisor offers new approach to zero-day rootkit and bootkit defense.
San Jose, CA, May 02, 2013 --(PR.com)-- LynuxWorks, Inc., a world leader in secure virtualization and real-time operating systems (RTOS),was given the 2013 Embeddy Award for the most significant new software product at the DESIGN West Conference. The award was presented by VDC Research Group (VDC), the sponsor of the Embeddy Awards.
"VDC would like to congratulate LynuxWorks for being selected our software Embeddy award winner at DESIGN West 2013," stated Jared Weiner, analyst for VDC Research Group. “With many of today’s M2M connected systems vastly under protected, LynxSecure provides a straightforward way to protect devices from the worst types of cyber threats.”
New security features in the LynxSecure embedded hypervisor offers real-time detection, alert and protection against new cyber threats ─ including zero-day rootkits and bootkits. This is the most sophisticated and lethal type of malware ─ stealthy and extremely potent. A device is often infected a long time before the actual cyber attack happens, with the cyber payload being secretly injected and remaining dormant until the attack is finally triggered.
After receiving the award, Robert Day, VP of Marketing, commented, “The development team realized as more embedded devices are connected to the outside world, they are more vulnerable to malicious cyber threats seeking to threaten critical infrastructure, financial infrastructure and corporate domains. By using LynxSecure, nefarious activity from advanced cyber threats can be observed, examined and prevented.”
The LynxSecure 5.2 embedded hypervisor approach to zero-day rootkit and bootkit defense offers a completely different security posture: It must execute with a higher privilege than the attacked OS; provide complete control of the platform hardware; and monitor all activities of the OS and its applications. Also, this mechanism must be self-protecting, non-bypassable and tamper-proof.
The LynxSecure product, by the nature of its virtualization, resides beneath the OS, and allows any nefarious activity from advanced cyber threats to be observed, examined and prevented. This security architecture allows embedded developers to use general purpose OSes for their connected devices, often alongside traditional embedded RTOSes on the same hardware, with the extra protection against today’s and tomorrow’s advanced cyber threats.
About LynxSecure
LynxSecure is a “Type-0” hypervisor which features a new, least privilege architecture that differentiates from type 1 hypervisors by removing the un-needed functionality from the “security sensitive” hypervisor mode. LynxSecure provides the ability to fully virtualize multiple unmodified guest OSs and includes real-time development tools to give developers granular control over hardware platform resources for managing guest OS resource allocation, execution scheduling, and intercommunication. By combining the best-of-breed capabilities of the separation kernel technology, virtualization and real-time development tools, LynxSecure provides unmatched capabilities to build advanced integrated solutions on standard commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) embedded targets.
About VDC Research
VDC Research is the leading M2M market intelligence firm that provides engineering leaders and technology suppliers with research-driven insights to help guide their product development and technology strategies. For over two decades, VDC Research has been conducting research and analysis of the global M2M market. Born out of its embedded engineering research practice, VDC Research surveys and interacts with thousands of engineers from all vertical markets including industrial automation, retail, manufacturing and medical devices, to gain insight into their project requirements, solution selection criteria, preferences and trends.
Based on a unique blend of quantitative and qualitative analysis that offer granularity and breadth of coverage, VDC is organized around four practice areas, each with its own focused area of coverage. Together, they enable a unique 360-degree perspective of the opportunities and challenges resulting from The Internet of Things and M2M. For more information visit: www.vdcresearch.com.
