Memorial Golf Tournament Benefits Hope Hospice
New Braunfels, TX, May 02, 2013 --(PR.com)-- On Friday, May 10 area golfers will commemorate the life and work of Dr. Pete Forney at the third annual Dr. Pete Forney Golf Tournament, benefiting Hope Hospice.
Sponsored by Christus Santa Rosa, the tournament will be held at The Bandit Golf Club with a shotgun start at 1 p.m., dinner and awards to follow. Community members, clubs and businesses are invited to sponsor and/or assemble a team to participate.
Dr. Forney was a humanitarian who dedicated his life to helping others. His vast experience as a university physician benefitted New Braunfels as he established a reputation as a superb surgeon and excellent diagnostician. Forney specialized in gynecologic cancer, but encompassed all areas of women’s reproductive health, including the delivery of over a thousand healthy babies. In 2006, Dr. Forney went to work for McKenna Hospital as chief of staff and contributed greatly to the needs of the medical staff. He also assisted in the transition of the hospital from McKenna to Christus Santa Rosa. For this reason, Christus continues their support as the title sponsor for this event.
Much of Dr. Forney’s life was spent in the service of others, including traveling to Peru on mission trips helping the less fortunate by treating gynecologic disease. Dr. Forney was respected in the community for his integrity and wit, and his legacy lives on. The third annual golf tournament is to honor him and to continue his passion in helping those with serious illness.

Hope Hospice is the oldest operating not for profit hospice in the central Texas area between San Antonio and Austin. Hope offers patients the opportunity to take control of their care plan and together with their families make the most of their lives when facing the last months of a life-limiting illness. Patients and families are provided a full team of support including physicians, nurses, home health aides, social workers, chaplains and volunteers to manage pain and symptoms, connect families with available resources and offer emotional and spiritual support. Families are shown how to complete necessary care giving tasks and educated on what to do in a variety of common situations. This education gives them the confidence and skills to keep their loved one at home in the most comfortable setting possible.
Hope Hospice serves Comal, Guadalupe, Caldwell, Hays, Kendall, Blanco and northern Bexar counties. Bereavement services are available to families of Hope Hospice patients as well as our neighbors within our service area. Available services include individual and family counseling, support groups, memorial services and a Children’s Grief Program complete with family activities and camps throughout the year.
Hope Hospice is proud to have the support of over 200 volunteers. Volunteers serve in the areas of Bereavement programming, patient care, administration, Thrift Shop, and fundraising. Those who provide companionship visits to patients first complete a 9-week training program.
