Sarasota, FL, May 08, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Local Art Event Showcases Autism Awareness

The Center for Autism Resources and Education (C.A.R.E.) is proud to announce Art Across the Spectrum is coming to Lakewood Ranch on Main Street this May 11th, Saturday, 10am until 2pm.

This celebration of extraordinary artwork is created solely by exceptional children and adolescents in our community. Various art mediums will be highlighted on a walk through beautiful Main Street in Lakewood Ranch. The proceeds of this unique event directly benefit C.A.R.E. which has provided a range of educational programs, resources, and support to families who are facing autism and other exceptionalities in our local community for over 15 years.

Dr. Kirstina Ordetx, President of C.A.R.E. and Director of Pinnacle Academy, states, “Art provides an outlet for children and adolescents who are living with a spectrum condition, including autism, Asperger’s syndrome, anxiety, attention-deficit-disorder, non-verbal learning disorder, or pervasive developmental disorder. Art class offers a creative process, which teaches imagination & abstract thinking, sensory processing, self expression, fine motor skills, and leisure skills.”

Community participation is crucial to the fight against autism spectrum disorder as it is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the United States. One in 88 kids is on the autism spectrum which means more children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes and cancer combined. Yet autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases. When you take that in consideration along with the fact most health insurance companies do not cover services and treatments proven to help children with autism, families are left not only heart broken but financially devastated. “Yet there is hope and with fundraising events like Art Across The Spectrum we have the opportunity to really make a positive difference in the lives of many children,” Dr. Ordetx adds.

Through this art event CARE can bring awareness to the community while inspiring others with the creative abilities of exceptional children and adolescents. For more information simply go to www.careautism.net or contact 941-758-4529.
