Convaid Donates Wheelchairs to Assist the Equine-Assisted Activities and Therapies at Rocking T Ranch
The wheelchair manufacturer recently donated two wheelchairs to the Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EQUIP) program at Rocking T Ranch in Yorba Linda, CA, to help train the horses get use to students with wheelchairs and other medical equipment.
Torrance, CA, May 08, 2013 --(PR.com)-- To help aid the Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EQUIP) at Rocking T Ranch in Yorba Linda, CA, Convaid, Inc. has donated two lightweight wheelchairs to help train their horses for the program. The wheelchairs are essential to help the horses feel comfortable around equipment used by students in the EQUIP program.
The program was introduced to Rocking T Ranch just one year ago by Gary Mullen, Ed.D., who developed two other similar programs. Executive Director Jim Tice and PATH International Instructor Maggie Kehrer, provide lessons to meet the unique requirements of each special needs client. Every lesson incorporates ground and riding activities. Interaction with the farm animals is also built into the tail end of many sessions. The client experience is designed to be beneficial on multiple levels including improved balance, coordination, social interaction, hand-eye coordination and increased attention span among many others.
The Rocking T Ranch’s clientele includes people with several different disabilities such as Autism, ADD, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Visual Impairments, Hearing Impairments, Social, Emotional and Behavioral Disorders.
“These Convaid wheelchairs are just perfect for the ranch,” said Kehrer. “Horses are very fearful animals and anything out of the ordinary can really frighten them. Part of training them for EQUIP is getting them use to wheelchairs and other equipment that clients might bring to the ranch.”
Convaid donated a Scout and Cruiser wheelchair, which is perfect to help prepare the horses for the EQUIP program at the Rocking T Ranch.
