Startup Greener50 Connects People to Eco-Friendly Businesses

Boulder, CO, May 10, 2013 --(PR.com)-- A duo based in Colorado is challenging the idea that business and the environment don't mix. Greener50, founded by Rick Oberreuter and Matt Neidenberg, is a website that connects eco-minded people, businesses, and organizations together. The concept of greener50 is simple; Find > Learn > Connect

The creators envision a place where anyone can:

Find green and eco-friendly businesses locally or nation-wide.

Learn from industry professionals and the greater community about all the great things happening in the green, clean tech, and natural product industries.

Connect by building a network with a purpose.

The site was featured in the Boulder Daily Camera's business section on April 22, 2013. Greener50 is a product of several ideas coming together. Rick's inspiration came from a client who said, "a small business has a hard time paying for high priced print ads and needs a better, more affordable way to advertise and promote their business and services." Similarly, Matt had long sought to create a type of interactive business directory specifically designed for “green” businesses to make it easier for consumers to make eco-conscious buying decisions. By chance, Matt and Rick became neighbors and formed a fast friendship.

"Neither of us had much of a programing background going into this. Rick is a graphic designer and I have been a forest ranger for the last nine years," Neidenberg said. "But what we do have is an over-arching concern for the world around us, as well as the brains and will to do something about it."

Matt's wife and head writer at greener50, Stefanie Neidenberg, was recently runner-up in the United Nations World Environment Day blog competition for an article posted on the site.

Greener50 is currently holding it's own, "One Wish" contest. Between Earth Day April 22nd and World Environment Day June 5th businesses and organizations who sign up for free and answer the question, "If you had One Wish and could solve any environmental problem, what would it be and why?" are eligible to win. The winner receives a Storefront Membership package (A $1000 value which includes a 3 page business directory website, featured articles on the home page, and much more).

The site launched in March and the focus now is primarily on outreach, building membership, and growing the business directory. However, in the near future the greener50 team hopes to turn its attention to promoting discussions and inspiring people to be involved in their community in eco-friendly ways.

Individuals, Businesses, and Non-Profits can sign up for free. However, greener50 offers paid membership options which provide additional services. Matt and Rick envision greener50 becoming the eco-hub on the web.
