Margaret River, Australia, May 09, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Surfing film "Drift" is expected to be a major breakthrough for tourism in the Margaret River region. The film was shot in various locations across the region with scenes in Augusta, Nannup, Margaret River, Bunker Bay, Gracetown and Yallingup.
South West Development Commission chief executive Don Punch hopes Drift will bring international recognition for Margaret River similar to what "The Lord of The Rings" brought for New Zealand.
"There is a lot of interest in film-based tourism. You do find that films with a following have an impact in terms of people wanting to visit the area.
"Devotees do travel around. You'll have film buffs as well as surfers seeing Margaret River as part of a must-do scene. The best tourism industry is a diverse industry and film tourism is part of that," he said.
Mr. Don added that $1.5mn in State Government's funding for the film and grants from local councils and the SWDC were intended for the promotion of the region.
Shot over six weeks, Drift tells the story of how surfing evolved from a pastime into a global industry back in the 1970s.
