Momento: Featuring New Works by Artists Gronk and Ricardo Garcia

Los Angeles, CA, August 18, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Perhaps in the most unlikely of collaborative efforts, artists Gronk and Ricardo Garcia present their latest work in a two-man exhibition titled, “Momento.” Juxtaposing two distinct styles and approaches to the medium of painting, both artists attempt to express an honest communication between abstract and figurative techniques. Historically, it would seem both Gronk and Garcia have existed and created in two separate frames of mind. But what connects these two artists is their recognition and respect of one another’s work and ultimately, the desire to create an aesthetic effect greater than each individual artist. Gronk and Garcia have created collaboration in the truest sense of the word. Intimately, both artists have been fed by each other’s every meticulous decision and detail regarding color, concept, and creativity. The result is truly a feast, of paint, of canvas, and ultimately of two artists’ new work redefining what it means to create synergy.

“Momento” will run from September 1, 2007 to September 29, 2007. An opening reception will be held on September 8, 2007 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. An artist lecture will begin at 7:30pm.

About the Artists
Gronk is an internationally recognized performance artist and painter who has exhibited in both museums and galleries throughout the country, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Denver Art Museum, as well as in England, France, and Sweden. Influenced by surrealism and German expressionism, Gronk has established himself as a monumental arts figure who over the decades has consistently reconstructed the idea of what it means to be a “Chicano Artist.” In addition to Gronk’s widely respected reputation as an artist, he has thrived as a cultural icon. art educator, and mentor to many generations of artists and art enthusiasts alike. He has exhibited in both museums and galleries throughout the country, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Denver Art Museum, as well as in England, France, and Sweden. Most recently, Gronk has been the subject of a book of the same name published by the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center and has participated in a lecture at LACMA concerning his entire body of work, with the book’s author Max Benavidez.

Ricardo Garcia was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Here he first discovered his love of the canvas and has exhibited in several art galleries in Los Angeles and in Mexico. Admittedly obsessed with line, Garcia infuses both abstract and figurative elements into all his painting and is most interested in recreating emotion through the expression of a single moment, quickly gaining him a unique position within the Los Angeles emerging art scene.
