SWACHA and the Albuquerque FBI Help Prevent Fraud at Ninth Annual Financial Institution Crime Day

Nearly 11,000 Consumer Fraud Related Complaints in New Mexico in 2012

Albuquerque, NM, May 15, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Dallas-based SWACHA has teamed up with the Albuquerque office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to host its ninth annual Financial Institution Crime Day in Albuquerque on May 15, 2013, to help local banks and credit unions reduce their exposure to fraud. SWACHA is one of the largest not-for-profit electronic payments associations in the country with many of its members in the Albuquerque area.

Security against financial crimes is an important subject for those in New Mexico, as the Federal Trade Commission reported nearly 11,000 consumer complaints in 2012, with government documents and benefits fraud, employment-related fraud, credit card fraud, and debt collection fraud ranking highest among the complaints in the state.

“With these Financial Institution Crime Days, we provide financial professionals session topics that help to advance security for the consumer, and help curtail as many of these crimes as possible,” said Dennis Simmons, AAP, SWACHA president and CEO. “It is important for the leaders of financial institutions and government agencies to recognize not only how to protect themselves and their customers from fraud, but to be able to educate others on how to prevent such fraudulent financial activities.”

The conference is designed for financial institution fraud and security professionals, compliance officers and law enforcement officials in the Criminal Intelligence, White Collar Crime Departments, and other officials designated for reducing fraud. It will cover topics such as white collar crime, fraud, robbery and identity theft, social security protection, electronic pickpocketing, and cyber-crime trends within the city of Albuquerque area and across the nation.
