Gifted Foundation Helps Atlanta Students Acquire $2.2 Million in College Scholarships

Atlanta, GA, May 18, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Students enrolled in the Gifted Education Foundation’s College Access Program (GCAP) have received $2.2 million in scholarships and subsidized funding. Out of 29 students in Gifted’s first cohort of graduating high school seniors, 20 students have received college scholarships and 28 have been accepted into colleges.

Among the scholarship recipients are:

Two Gates Millennium scholars - Demarquez Grissom of The New Schools of Carver, Health Sciences; Miaya Faniel of South Atlanta School of Computer Animation and Design

One Posse Foundation scholar - Demarquez Grissom of The New Schools of Carver, Health Sciences

One Taylor Michaels scholar - Kenya Johnson of Archer High School

Seven Presidential scholars - Avante Lowe, Quentin Harper and Jace Porter of The New Schools of Carver, Health Sciences; Jerniyah Beckley and Quartavious Wilder of The New Schools of Carver, School of the Arts; Kadeem Trimble of Druid Hills High School; Shannon Bowe of South Atlanta School of Computer Animation and Design

One of the ways GCAP helps low-income Atlanta students prepare for college is by providing one-on-one after school advising on how to find and apply for scholarships. Gifted also invites expert presenters to its bi-weekly Saturday sessions and Winter Leadership Institute sessions to further coach students on the scholarship application process.

Gifted will continue to mentor each graduating student after they begin college this fall through hands-on support and experiential coaching in the Gifted Mentoring Program.
