Franchon Crews Wades Through Troubled Waters for Gold.

Baltimore, MD, May 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- With more than a dozen National titles under her belt, Franchon “The Heavy Hitting Diva” Crews heads to Venezuela in the quest for gold at the Women’s Continental Championships.

After winning her seventh US National boxing tournament, Crews aimed to continue her victory as she represented Team USA last week.

“I’ve been training really hard, and I feel ready,” says Crews. After learning that her mother may be battling cancer, Crews faced numerous obstacles leading up to the tournament. Between fighting a sinus infection during training camp, and struggling financially back home, Crews took a leap of faith as she chased her dream to gold. “I’ve been through so much. Sometimes I would come home and wouldn’t know if I would be evicted for not being able to pay rent. I am just trying to make it on a dollar and a dream.”

The Women’s Continental Championships featured boxers from 18 different countries, held from May 15 through 20. In last year’s Continental Championship, Crews won gold in the 178 lb division.

Ultimately, The Heavy Hitting Diva aims to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janiero. Crews lost her vie to represent USA at last Olympic Games to Claressa Shields, who went on to win Gold in London.

“I plan to do my best and give 150% of my ability when I step in the ring. I feel I’m here for a reason. All I have to do is stay persistent. Then I cannot be denied,” said Crews. Crews won a silver medal at this tournament and is now the #2 ranked middle weight in the world. Results of the tournament will be posted at www.usaboxing.org, and also on Crews’ personal website www.theheavyhittingdiva.com and Facebook www.facebook.com/theh.h.diva.
