Film Adaptation of Award Winning Children’s Book to Begin Production in Detroit

Detroit, MI, May 23, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The film adaptation of Royal Oak author Josef Bastian’s award winning book Nain Rouge has begun pre-production.

Nain Rouge was the recipient of the Young Voices FoundationTM 2010 Seal of Approval, Historical Nonfiction - Juvenile / Young Adult.

The book Nain Rouge is centered on a Detroit folk legend from the founding of the city itself. Author Josef Bastian talks about the moral message of Nain Rouge; "I'd like to think that this first book in the Nain Rouge trilogy presents not only the human struggle of good versus evil, but provides children and adults with the opportunity to explore how we cope with life's challenges. In the end, we have to make choices and live with our decisions. Maybe, it takes a society working together for the common good to defeat the evil forces - both seen and unseen.”

After the story was published, with much praise, Mr. Bastian was approached to adapt his story into a film. Due to the changes in Michigan’s film incentives the project was put on hold. With the new incentives firmly in place the production is now back on track.

Drunken Muse Productions LLC, of Birmingham Michigan, has optioned the rights for the movie and has begun production partnering with Rocket Popsicle Films of Ferndale. Paul Lang of Drunken Muse praises the plot “The Nain Rouge has elements of a great family movie; tween angst, magic, a great evil villain, and an action packed story with a high moral message.”

The story highlights many Detroit Landmarks from the Institute of Arts to Hart Plaza. Look for filming to begin this fall.
