Scope to Participate at the Annual Meeting of Society for Scholarly Publishing

The session will address some of the challenges book publishers face in transitioning to an online content business model. Session speakers Christine Charlip, Director, ASM Press; Kent Anderson, CEO/Publisher, Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery; Tara Robenalt, Director of Product Management, HighWire; and Ashley Bass, Product Manager, Serials Solutions, will explore the relative obscurity of book chapter content online, along with the opportunity it brings. A variety of strategies for enhancing discoverability and citation of book content will be presented from the viewpoints of book authors, publishers, platform providers and library discovery services. The importance of both CrossRef DOIs and index/abstract metadata for book chapters will be discussed, citing examples of some high profile book publishers.
