Community Members Launch Advocacy Non-Profit to Save Lives from Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Lancaster, PA, May 30, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Local community advocates organize and launch Heartsafe Pennsylvania Inc. to improve patient outcomes from Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

Underscoring a collective national history of poor survival outcomes, a group of community leaders, advocates, EMS professionals, and physicians have developed a state recognized nonprofit advocacy group in Lancaster City, PA. Heartsafe Pennsylvania Inc. was formed with the purpose of strengthening the chain of survival in targeted communities. These goals would be accomplished through direct community action by expanding mass CPR training, supporting public AED placement, working to strengthen prevention initiatives and advocate for a better healthcare system with increased funding through effective state legislation.

"Over 300,000 Americans die of SCA each year. The national survival rate is only 5-8 percent because SCA strikes any time at any place, and unfortunately, emergency responders cannot always arrive immediately to provide the necessary resuscitation and defibrillation," said James Weber, President of Heartsafe Pennsylvania.

The organization’s official public launch will be on June 7th during National CPR and AED awareness week. We will be highlighting the organization, announcing local initiatives, and teaching compression CPR during the Lancaster City first Friday event. We will be opening the doors to both press and the public at 1900 hours at our offices at 323 N. Queen Street.

About Sudden Cardiac Arrest - Sudden cardiac arrest is an electrical disruption of the heart's natural rhythm. It is not the same as a heart attack. SCA is the nation's leading cause of death, striking more than 300,000 Americans each year.
