Baby Boomers Strike "Liquid" Gold in the Gold Country. Winery Wins Prestigious Awards. Pilot Peak Winery Offers Unique Comparative Tasting Method with Award Winning Wine
Pilot Peak Syrah wins Best of Show at the Orange County Fair competing against 3150 other wines. In celebration, guests can come to the winery to enjoy a private relaxed Comparative Tasting out on the beautiful terraces, while enjoying the views, the wines and the vines. They are provided tasting notes and food "pairings" to accompany the Award winning wines.
Penn Valley, CA, August 23, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Pilot Peak Winery opened to the public on May 20, 2006 and by then end of the first year in business they have had over 4,000 visitors and won the most prestigious awards with their first release of red wines.
"We did it by offering each of our guests an "Experience" and not just tasting great wines" explained Jacque Wilson, co-owner of Pilot Peak Winery. Pilot Peak Winery (www.PilotPeak.com) is open every Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon until 5 PM and offers the most Unique Tasting "Experience" in the Northern Sierra Wine Country.
"We call it "Comparative Tasting," " stated Lynn Wilson, co-owner and Wine maker at Pilot Peak Winery. "It allows our guests the opportunity to taste, savor and re-taste each wine to compare and contrast the aromas and flavors insuring that you will select the wines that you enjoy the most." Anyone can "experience" this private and relaxed tasting "method" out on the beautiful terraces, while enjoying the views, the wines and the vines at Pilot Peak Winery. Tasting notes are provided along with a tray of numbered, stemless wine glasses so you can sample the award winning wines at your own pace while enjoying special food pairings served to complement the wines.
"June 2007 was a very good month to Pilot Peak Winery," added Len Stevens - co-owner of Pilot Peak Winery and owner of Len Stevens Construction. "We not only received Gold medals in every competition that we entered but we won Best of Show - Red Varietal at Orange County Fair. In addition to the Best of Show at Orange County, Pilot Peak Winery 2005 Sierra Foothills Syrah - won Gold at Amador County and Gold at the Riverside International Wine Competition. It scored a 90 at the California State Fair just missing a Gold Medal. It also won the prestigious 4 Star Gold at Orange County - only one of 27 awarded to the over 3150 wines entered. To earn a 4 Star Gold, each judge on the panel must award the wine gold. Since this is not a "consensus judging", i.e. the judges do not confer among themselves to determine what recommendation they will make, but arrive at their recommendation individually, it is truly a rare occurrence and also a very coveted award.
"Pilot Peak specializes in Rhone Varietals and blends - and one our signature wines "Paramour" is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Petit Sirah and Mourvedre" offered Lynn. This medium-bodied red blend wine won the Chairman's Award for unanimous Gold medals from all the judges at the Riverside International Wine Competition. It also won a Gold medal at the Amador County Fair and Silver medals at Orange County and the California State Fairs.
"We wanted to take our wines to other wine country's competitions - to show that the wines in the Northern Sierra Wine Country can not only hold their own but take home the Gold when compared to our neighboring wine countries," stated Jacque. "We have 14 unique wineries in Nevada County - and we are truly becoming a wine destination that has many, many more qualities than most with our wonderful Bed & Breakfasts, specialty restaurants and our historical Gold mining towns to explore".
Nancy Stevens - co-owner adds, "Gold has once again been found in Nevada County - but this time it's liquid." Lynn and Jacque Wilson - baby boomers in their second careers absolutely agree - award winning wines, a fabulous location and meeting great people are all golden opportunities that this couple is very pleased to have found.
