Sarah Walko is a sculptor and assemblagist. In her work, found and made objects compose distinct visual languages. Only through these invented languages can she address the fragility and the complexity of the object. Her process of making is uniform only in concept. She starts with a critique of this premise: every object is supposedly formed through a system that can be understood rationally. She invades these formal processes, infusing the moment of creation with incalculable qualities: entropy, intuition, emotion, illusion, and mortality. Her work calls for an understanding of the world that is simultaneously based on matter and beyond matter.

Brian Britza, artspace 303 gallery committee chair, said, “This show represents the Council’s ability to program engaging, progressive work. Sarah Walko’s work takes the viewer to a place we are all familiar with, she tests viewers, systematically , and attempts to share her work as if we are all standing inside some laboratory, all at the same time displaying visually challenging images we can just stare at.”

Sarah Walko is a Pittsburgh native now living in Savannah, Georgia. She graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Painting with a Master of Fine Arts.
