Bayer Supports Volunteer Projects in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park as Part of 150th Anniversary Celebration
Bayer Cares Foundation Contributes to 150 Volunteer Projects Across the Globe During 150th Anniversary Year
Research Triangle Park, NC, June 14, 2013 --(PR.com)-- This week, Bayer CropScience announced that the Bayer Cares Foundation will support three employee volunteer projects in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park area as part of Bayer’s 150th anniversary celebration. All grants, totaling 150 worldwide, will improve lives in Bayer communities across the globe.
These projects, part of nine total U.S.-based nonprofits chosen by Bayer, are the Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen and Passage Home in Raleigh, and the North Carolina Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill. The foundation will contribute approximately $3,300 to both the Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen and Passage Home, and approximately $1600 to the North Carolina Botanical Garden, with a total worldwide gift of nearly $790,000 for the 150 projects selected by a panel of judges. In the United States, local community projects of eight current Bayer employees and one retiree have been selected for a total U.S. donation of nearly $37,000.
Each nonprofit in the RTP area receives both financial and personnel support from Bayer CropScience employees on a consistent basis. The Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen is dedicated to feeding men, women and children of every faith and ethnicity, serving more than 300 people each day. Passage Home works to fight poverty and homelessness in Wake County, and provides children in Southeast Raleigh with year-round educational enrichment through its Safety Club. A hub of nature research and conservation, the North Carolina Botanical Garden inspires understanding and appreciation of plants to advance a sustainable relationship between people and nature.

In addition, other Bayer companies’ employee volunteerism projects receiving donations in the United States include:

· Kansas - Open Door Haiti in Shawnee
· Pennsylvania – Christian Assembly Church’s Homeless Outreach Program
Nearly 700 employees and retirees from more than 60 countries applied to Bayer for support for a project in which they volunteer their services as part of the 150th anniversary program "Being a role model pays off!" Last year alone, approximately 1,800 Bayer employees volunteered nearly 19,000 hours to local volunteer programs in the United States. In RTP alone, Bayer CropScience employees volunteered more than 3,750 hours and the company donated more than $410,000 to local nonprofits.
