Online Search for Art Finds Artist to Design CD Cover for L.A. Jazz Musician
Rumi Flute, an L.A. jazz flutist, was looking for colorful art to adorn her new CD cover titled "Rumi & Zabumba Rumba" when she found the uplifting artwork of Lindy Gaskill.
Prescott, AZ, June 15, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Rumi Flute, an L.A. jazz flutist, was looking for colorful art to adorn her new CD cover titled "Rumi & Zabumba Rumba." With a fun title like that, one would want some festive, colorful art.
Rumi found Lindy Gaskill by doing a search online and was instantly taken by her whimsical, colorful style of painting.
The debut solo album, "Rumi & Zabumba Rumba" features 10 dynamic Afro-Latin jazz arrangements of Rumi Flute's original compositions along with fresh takes on classic melodies from around the world.
Recorded with an all-star band including Venezuelan piano legend Otmaro Ruiz, and bassist Hussain Jiffry of the Sergio Mendes band, Rumi's arrangements incorporate Afro-Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Argentine, and Afro-Peruvian rhythms.
Rumi knew she wanted original artwork to commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime project and she looked hard for the right artist. Rumi said, "I searched online using keywords like 'tropical painting' and 'colorful artist.' When Rumi saw Lindy Gaskill's work she immediately felt a connection between Lindy's images and her music.
Lindy Gaskill, being both a fine artist and graphic designer, was able to not only do a commissioned painting for the cover jacket but designed the CD package as well.
"Lindy had many paintings already that would have worked wonderfully as album cover but I was so thrilled to be able to commission her for an original piece," said Rumi. "She was incredibly responsive and intuitive, giving me exactly what I was looking for and so much more. When she first showed it to me I loved the painting immediately! It was also great that she was able to design the complete CD jacket to work so beautifully with the artwork. I couldn't be happier."
The album is being released June 15, 2013 by Revolg Records as a digital download and physical CD with a full-color package designed by Lindy. It can be heard at rumiflute.bandcamp.com
