Traverse City Locals and Visitors Experience European Bicycle Race Action with Cherry-Roubaix Family Activities

6th Annual Cherry-Roubaix bicycle race brings spectators to the resort area of Traverse City June 14-16 for Friday Time Trials, Saturday State Championships Criterium Race for Masters/Women/Juniors, and a Sunday Road Race. Other Saturday, June 15 Cherry-Roubaix events include the Kids Drag Race and Cruiser Classic in Old Town Traverse City and microbrew tent for spectators ages 21+. Sunday Road Race starts atop Sugar Loaf Mountain, Cedar.

Traverse City, MI, June 16, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The 6th Annual Cherry-Roubaix bicycle race and title sponsor Garan Lucow Miller, P.C. satisfy “the need for speed” as well as family fun during their 3-day event that spans across Old Mission Peninsula for Friday Time Trials, Old Town Traverse City on Saturday, June 15 for a plethora of racing and family events including a Kids Drag Race and State Championship European-style Criterium Races, and Leelanau County on Sunday, June 16 for the Cherry-Roubaix Road Race that starts atop Sugar Loaf Mountain, Cedar. New on Saturday, a race-side Right Brain Brewery Microbrew Beer Tent for fans ages 21+ in Old Town will satisfy race enthusiasts at the corner of 8th and Union. The beer tent will be open to the public on Saturday, June 15 from noon until the last race finishes around 8:00 pm.

The Friday, June 14 Time Trial Race on Old Mission Peninsula is a race against the clock, and cyclists will compete to stamp their dominance on the weekend and be the leader in each category going into Saturday. On Saturday, June 15, the real fun begins at 9:00 am with Traverse City’s Old Town Criteruim. Race action may be viewed all along Union Street between 7th and 9th Streets. The excitement begins when Junior racers compete for State Championship awards in their age groups. “It's a blast to watch these young athletes fly around the course at high speeds, all racing to be the best of the best in the state,” comments Tim Barrons, experienced racer and Cherry-Roubaix Media Director. Bicycle race action continues all day long in various categories including Men masters, (aka those that look and perform much more youthfully than they actually are!), Women and the Pro fields.

Families feel a part of things on Saturday with a new Kids Drag Race that starts at 12:30 pm, and racers and viewers alike look forward to the comedic Cruiser Classic at 5:10 pm where themed, costumed teams relay a Grand Traverse Pie Company pie through the cobblestone crit course. Committed cycling fans will enjoy the extremely challenging landscape of Sunday’s Cherry-Roubaix Road Race in Cedar which starts atop Sugarloaf Mountain at 9:00 am.
