Feature Races

2013 St James’s Palace Stakes
The first of these is the St. James’s Palace Stakes, the last of three Group 1s that will open Royal Ascot 2013. The race will act as a sequel to the Irish and English 2,000 Guineas, with some of the world’s top milers in the field – including the winners of both the English and Irish Guineas.

What makes this year’s race special is the anticipated duel between the English 2,000 Guineas winner, Dawn Approach, and the Irish 2,000 Guineas winner, Magician. While duel’s between the winners of these two races are not uncommon in the St. James’s Palace Stakes, Dawn Approach will be under additional scrutiny as he looks to bounce back from a disastrous Epsom Derby outing that saw him finish last after starting as favourite.

2013 Prince of Wales’s Stakes
The Prince of Wales’s Stakes has drawn a spectacular field in 2013, which includes a number of horses with outstanding Group 1 credentials. Amongst these is recent Coronation Cup winner, St Nicholas Abbey, who has become the first horse ever to take 3 Coronation Cup titles. He’ll be up against Snow Fairy, the star filly who won both the Epsom and Irish Oaks, as well as a former Melbourne Cup winner in Dunaden.

These entries are just a foretaste of the quality in the field, and the 2013 Prince of Wales’s Stakes will offer a rare opportunity to view a truly world class field in action over 1 miles 2 furlongs at Ascot Racecourse.

Coronation Stakes
The Coronation Stakes is the premier event for fillies at the Royal Meeting, and acts as a sequel to the English and Irish 1,000 Guineas. Both Sky Lantern, the English 1,000 Guineas Winner, and Irish 1,000 Guineas champion, Just The Judge, are in the field for the 2013 edition of this race.

They’ll be joined by several horses that placed in both the English and Irish Guineas, transforming the Coronation Stakes into a classy combination of the two. Despite the presence of Classics champions, this race is ripe for an upset, and we expect it to set hearts pounding on the fourth day of Royal Ascot 2013.
