Broward Sheriff and Other Dignitaries Salute OIC of South Florida Graduates

Opportunities Industrialization Center of South Florida (OICSFL) and the Broward Sheriff Office share an inspiring graduation ceremony.

Oakland Park, FL, June 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Opportunities Industrialization Center of South Florida (OICSFL), a community-based provider of job skills training, workforce development and placement services held its annual Graduation Ceremony for the class of 2012/13 on June 6, 2012 at the Broward Center of the Performing Arts-Amaturo Theater. The keynote speaker, Broward Sheriff Scott J. Israel received several rounds of applause for his comments regarding job opportunities, BSO policy on civil citations versus arrest of juveniles under 17 and the encouragement of all the graduates to pursue productive lives and give back to the community.

Sheriff Israel praised the graduates on the successes they have achieved through the programs offered at OIC of South Florida, particularly as it pertained to persons deserving a second chance after incarceration. “Every race in life is won by he or she who endures and you have endured,” stated the Sheriff. Many of the graduates, while nervous at first to meet Broward Counties top cop, were heard commenting how personable and down to earth the Sheriff was. He insisted on staying to personally shake every graduates hand as they crossed the stage. “I never thought I would meet the top guy, much less have him shake my hand and take a picture with me,” stated one graduate. “It was truly an honor.”

According to Newton Sanon, President and CEO, “These graduates have successfully transcended the obstacles associated with assuming rewarding roles in our society and are working towards self-sufficiency and economic empowerment. For almost 50 Years OIC’s around the world have been offering quality job training and support services to underserved residents of communities of whom are in need of and have a desire to become productive members of society. This effort is realized with the investment and commitment of time to train and develop the skill sets needed to earn a living wage and in exchange for a wage to provide for their families. Hence OIC’s Motto of offering a ‘hand up as oppose to a hand out.’ It is all about self-sufficiency!”

Commissioner Dale Holness presented and honored OIC for its service to the community by proclaiming June 6, 2013 as OIC of South Florida Day. Also attending to witness and congratulate the graduates was Representative Hazel P. Rogers of district 95 and Ryan Ryder a representative attending on behalf of Commissioner Chip LaMarca’s office.

Mr. Sanon had another surprise for the graduates, a personal video greeting from students and staff from OIC Ghana, Africa. “Most people don’t realize how big OIC actually is,” stated Mr. Sanon. The OIC International affiliate in Ghana provided an uplifting personalized “Ayeekoo” – “Congratulations” to OIC South Florida graduates, which was met with great enthusiasm and awe from the South Florida group.

In addition to honoring the graduates, OIC presented their annual Employer of the Year Award to Chrysalis Health in appreciation of their commitment to investing in our community through Workforce Development. Honorable mention must go to Legally Clean as an Employer of Merritt for their commitment to our community as well.

OIC of South Florida wishes to congratulate this year’s class and thank Broward Sheriff Scott J. Israel and the business leaders of the community for their tireless effort to develop and assist these outstanding citizens to lead the lives that we all strive for.
