Dover Downs Hotel & Casino Awarded Green Concierge Silver Tier Certification
Dover, DE, June 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Ed Sutor, President and CEO of Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, is proud to announce that the Company has accepted the Silver Tier Certification Green Concierge (GC) award from HospitalityGreen, LLC, New York, on June 17 in Fire & Ice at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino. The GC Certification, conceived by HospitalityGreen in 2009, works with tourism and lodging facilities throughout the U.S. to help improve their economic vitality and sustainable business practices without compromising service delivery or customer satisfaction.
“The conservation practices Dover Downs Hotel & Casino has put in place to earn this certification are a great example of steps Delaware businesses can take to lessen their environmental impact,” said U.S. Sen. Tom Carper. “Dover Downs Hotel & Casino is leading the industry in this region in protecting our environment and public health, which in turn is reducing harmful pollutants and helping us all lead healthier lives.”
The GC Certification process is structured in three tiers (Bronze, Silver and Gold) with each tier providing realistic benchmarks and advancement of subsequent tiers dependent upon a business’s commitment, their verifiable resource tracking and their dedication to increasingly rigorous sustainable practices.
“We are extremely pleased to have achieved this level of sustained recycling efforts and credit our success to the widespread diligence of our staff and the guidance of our partners, Seiberlich Trane, Waste Management and HospitalityGreen,” said Sutor. “The reduction of impact on the local landfill has produced a significant cost savings, as well. We remain committed to sharing our practices by inviting other companies to see our processes in action.”
There are 114 facilities throughout the United States currently participating in the GC Certification program. Twenty-three of the properties have received Bronze level recognition. Dover Downs Hotel & Casino is the first casino on the East Coast to have pioneered the GC program, and the first and only company, nationwide, to have met the program standards for Silver Tier. The Company has already instituted steps and policies to achieve Gold Tier status.
"Dover Downs Hotel & Casino is setting an excellent example because recycling helps create jobs and reduces greenhouse gases," said Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Shawn M. Garvin. "EPA also welcomes Dover Downs Hotel & Casino into EPA's Food Recovery Challenge, which further supports the company's sustainability efforts."
Dover Downs Hotel & Casino was the first hotel in Delaware to achieve “Green Hotel” status by the Delaware Green Lodging program – a joint initiative by the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and the Delaware Hotel & Lodging Association to promote pollution prevention (P2) practices in the tourism and hospitality industry.
